Britannia is particularly well suited for watercolour (wet-in-wet, smooth wash and dry painting), as well as gouache, tempera and acrylic. When wet, the natural white tough surface provides outstanding flatness. Colours can be applied easily, it is lignin and natural white, acid-free, lightfast and extremely age resistant. Hahnemühle FineArt has designed a special paper for Japanese sumi-e painting. This very absorbent paper is ideal for "freestyle" brush painting. "sumi" means "black ink" and "e" means both "path" and "painting". The natural white paper creates strong contrasts as the brush glides across the surface.
